CREW
Beth Dobelhall
Born from my love of toy collecting and interest in documentary as a medium, this project has been nothing if not a passion project for me as a director. My take towards documentary is inspired heavily by music subculture documentaries, works such as The Decline of Western Civilisation and Bastards of Young. I want to act as a guide for you, the audience, to a subculture of artists that you might not have heard of and allow them to speak for themselves. My interest in feminist film theory also created a curiosity in examining the gendering of toys and what that means when you’re an adult, either as a collector or as an artist. Fundamentally ‘Plastic Sniffers and Resin Punks’ is a documentary born from my own examination of my hobbies and my interest in art often dismissed as ‘low’ by general artistic circuits.
Antoine Hobbs
Antoine is a 21-year-old filmmaker based in Melbourne and is the producer for Plastic Sniffers and Resin Punks. Having worked on this project for the last two years, he is insanely excited to finally be able to show it to the world! Antoine is currently wrapping up his Bachelor of Film and Television (with a minor in Marketing) at Swinburne, and already has his next documentary lined up
Guy Brooks
Guy Brooks is a sound recordist, designer and boom operator based in Melbourne. Inspired by the works of David Lynch, he has a fondness for experimentation in sound and is particularly attracted to horror and surrealist films. Over the past few years, Guy has worked on a variety of documentaries, with subjects ranging from video game as an art form in The Unititled Documentary, and the lingering trauma of the holocaust in N'oubliez Jamais, which was used as educational material for Year 12 VCE students. These projects have allowed him to develop a strong passion for documentary filmmaking, especially projects which explore niche subcultures and important issues in society.
Benjamin Burr
Benjamin Burr is the documentary’s cinematographer. From an early age Ben was completely enamored with filmmaking as an artform with dreams of becoming a filmmaker. Fond memories of obsessively replaying behind the scenes featurettes on DVDs and running around my back garden pretending he was in some action movie. This fantasy progressed to getting the first camera that became an inseparable second pair of eyes. Ben's elationship with the camera has continued into projects as director of photography on numerous fiction and documentary films through VCE and a Bachelor of Film and TV with Honors at Swinburne. Along with others, having the opportunity to work on Plastic Sniffers And Resin Punks has not only developed personal aesthetic sensibilities but more importantly nourished a curiosity for humanity.
Fergus Luk
Fergus, the editor for Plastic Sniffers and Resin punks. I have always been interested in editing since high school, and have worked on countless projects throughout the 5 years I have been editing, both personal and professional projects. It has always been as blast working with this talented crew on films and documentaries, and I am always able to learn so much from these film projects. This film has been an unforgettable journey - as the last department down the production pipeline, it is always exiting and stressful seeing the fruit of labour from my fellow colleagues. Throughout the 6 months of post production, I was able to elevate the interesting personalities and themes of each interview subjects, and oversee the evolution of each draft, slowly turning into a phenomenal product. If you are interested in the world of toys and nostalgia, I urge you to check out Plastic Sniffers and Resin Punks!
